El Gobierno de Argentina anunció este martes la compra de 1,6 millones de kilos de yerba mate, a fin de garantizar el acceso de las poblaciones «en situación de vulnerabilidad» a esta infusión clave en el consumo local.
A través del Ministerio de Desarrollo Social, la Casa Rosada destinará casi 650 millones de pesos (unos 5,6 millones de dólares) a la adquisición de 800.000 paquetes de yerba de dos marcas distintas, ganadoras de una licitación pública, según se detalló en el Boletín Oficial.
La medida se enmarca en una crisis inflacionaria solo equiparable a la registrada hace 20 años, tras el colapso económico de 2001. El Índice de Precios al Consumidor alcanzó en marzo un 6,7 % de aumento, llevando la inflación interanual a 55,1 %. El alza de los precios se da principalmente en los alimentos, y ello se siente con mayor impacto en los sectores de menos recursos.
De acuerdo a la resolución, esta política tiene el objetivo de «lograr la adquisición de yerba mate elaborada con palo para atender a la población en situación de vulnerabilidad» y fue «solicitada por la Dirección Nacional de Seguridad Alimentaria» del citado Ministerio.
