Un funcionario sindical en Europa, advirtió hoy que los conductores de vehículos pesados de la Unión Europea no vendrán al Reino Unido con contratos a corto plazo para aliviar la crisis del combustible según las propuestas del gobierno anunciadas el fin de semana debido a las malas condiciones laborales en la industria.
El jefe de investigación y cumplimiento del sindicato FNV con sede en los Países Bajos, Edwin Atema, quien representa a los conductores de todo el bloque, aseguró: «Los trabajadores de la UE con los que hablamos no irán al Reino Unido para obtener una visa a corto plazo para ayudar al Reino Unido a salir de la mierda que ellos mismos crearon».
Entre una serie de soluciones de emergencia que se están considerando para aliviar la crisis de la cadena de suministro, la más notable en las largas colas de gasolina, los ministros han dicho que permitirán que hasta 5.000 conductores de vehículos pesados de la UE trabajen en el Reino Unido hasta Navidad.
Otro plan, que se espera sea considerado por Boris Johnson este lunes, sería utilizar cientos de soldados para entregar combustible a las estaciones de servicio que se están quedando sin suministros en medio de compras de pánico y escasez de conductores.
