Hoy, 3 de noviembre, es el Día Mundial del Sandwich, una celebración no oficial establecida en honor a John Montagu, el IV conde de la ciudad inglesa de Sandwich que, aunque no tenía una relación directa con la ciudad, se le vincula a la misma de una manera curiosa.
La historia nos revela que el conde de Sandwich era aficionado al juego de cartas, y cuando estaba jugando no se paraba ni para comer. En 1762, durante un juego de larga duración, el conde, para evitar ensuciar los naipes, pidió al cocinero que le sirviera la carne dentro de dos rebanadas de pan. Al paso del tiempo, los demás jugadores comenzaron a imitar la estrategia del conde, y pedían a los cocineros servicios de carne igual como los preparaban para Sandwich, y así nació el nombre de ese famoso alimento.
Termino esta nota con un pensamiento de Paul Lynde: “Los sándwiches son maravillosos. ¡No necesitas cuchara ni plato!”.
