El Ministerio de Salud Pública (MSP) de Ecuador confirmó este lunes la primera muerte de un paciente con viruela del mono en el país, donde se han registrado hasta el momento 10 personas infectadas desde el comienzo del brote.
La persona falleció este 8 de agosto «producto de su patología preexistente», aunque no se ofrecieron más detalles sobre las causas del deceso, según informó el MSP.
Ecuador registró un primer contagio de viruela símica el pasado 6 de julio, cuando confirmó la dolencia en una persona de 30 años.
La semana pasada, la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) señaló en un comunicado que en las Américas se han notificado más de 10.000 casos en 24 países desde el inicio del brote, lo que representa el 38 % de los casos mundiales.
