El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de El Salvador denunció que en Long Island, Nueva York (EE.UU.), fue quemado un vehículo del consulado del país centroamericano, con el que hacían operativos a los salvadoreños ubicados en zonas apartadas de la oficina consular.
Asimismo, la Cancillería indicó que se trató de un «atentado terrorista». Wendy Clavijo, secretaria de Salvadoreños en el Exterior, informó que el acto había sido cometido por supuestos simpatizantes de la Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA) y el Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN), opositores al presidente Nayib Bukele.
«Este consulado móvil no hace trabajo para ‘el régimen’, ni para ‘el dictador’, es de lo poco que nuestro país le ofrece a nuestra diáspora», dijo Bukele, en un mensaje dirigido a sus detractores, que lo acusan de establecer un gobierno dictatorial en su país y la semana pasada realizaron una gran protesta en su contra.
