Estados Unidos impuso restricciones de visa a nueve funcionarios cubanos por atacar a manifestantes pacíficos, anunció el secretario de Estado (canciller), Antony Blinken, en un comunicado.
Entre esas nueve personas figuran altos cargos de los ministerios del Interior y de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias, añade el comunicado.
Blinken acusó al Gobierno cubano de intimidar a los activistas, detener a periodistas y miembros de la oposición y revocar las credenciales de los reporteros.
«Las personas designadas actuaron para negar a los cubanos sus derechos a la libre expresión y a la reunión pacífica», señaló.
La plataforma opositora Archipiélago impulsó la Marcha Cívica por el Cambio, convocada para el 15 de noviembre, una protesta que finalmente no se celebró tras ser desautorizada por las autoridades cubanas.
El Gobierno de la isla acusa a Archipiélago de ser una herramienta de Estados Unidos para desestabilizar el país. Desde la plataforma niegan cualquier relación con Washington y subrayan el carácter pacífico de sus propuestas.
