El alcalde de Nueva York, Eric Adams, declaró este viernes el estado de emergencia para responder a la llegada durante los últimos meses de miles de inmigrantes y demandantes de asilo, muchos de ellos enviados en autobuses por las autoridades del estado de Texas.
Adams manifesto que “la ciudad espera gastar este año al menos 1,000 millones de dólares para ayudar a estas personas y que su sistema de albergues está prácticamente lleno”, por tal razón pidió ayuda urgente a los Gobiernos federal y estatal y reclamó un plan coordinado para trasladar a inmigrantes a otras localidades del país.
Según el alcalde, desde el pasado abril más de 17,000 demandantes de asilo, en su mayoría suramericanos, han sido trasladados en autobuses a Nueva York desde la frontera sur de Estados Unidos.
Adams dijo que desde septiembre se ha visto una media de cinco o seis autobuses cada día y que este jueves llegaron nueve. Cuatro más lo hicieron hoy, según el diario New York Post.
