El Parlamento de Portugal ha rechazado hoy una propuesta para gravar bitcoin y otras criptomonedas.
En una sesión presupuestaria celebrada el miércoles por la tarde, los partidos de izquierda Bloco de Esquerda y Livre propusieron gravar los activos digitales, pero esa idea fue desechada, según informo el periódico online ECO a través de su blog en vivo.
La propuesta pedía al Gobierno que estudiara la posibilidad de gravar los beneficios de las criptomonedas que superen los 5.000 euros (5.340,45 dólares).
Portugal ha sido considerando durante mucho tiempo un paraíso fiscal para la criptomonedas los ingresos de las ventas individuales de criptomonedas están exentos de impuestos desde 2018.
Además, el comercio de activos digitales no se considera un ingreso de inversión en la nación europea. Por ello, Lisboa resulta atractiva para las startups y los eventos de criptomonedas, aunque los negocios que aceptan criptomonedas tienen que pagar el impuesto sobre la renta por esos ingresos.
Pero eso puede estar llegando a su fin. Este mismo mes, el ministro de Hacienda, Fernando Medina, anunció que los activos de criptomonedas en el país pronto estarían sujetos a impuestos sobre las ganancias de capital.
El gobierno de Portugal también podría aplicar pronto un impuesto sobre el valor añadido (IVA), derechos de timbre o impuestos sobre la propiedad a los activos digitales, después de que Antonio Mendonça Mendes, viceministro de Finanzas y Asuntos Fiscales del país, dijera en la misma sesión del Parlamento que gravar las criptomonedas era una «realidad compleja» y que las ganancias de capital podrían no ser suficientes.
