El Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) aprobó el desembolso de unos 700 millones de dólares para Ecuador, tras concluir la sexta y última revisión del acuerdo alcanzado con Quito.
Ecuador obtuvo en septiembre de 2020 un préstamo a 27 meses en el marco del mecanismo de Servicio Ampliado del FMI (SAF, que permite corregir desequilibrios estructurales), por 6.500 millones de dólares, con el fin de fomentar la recuperación económica después de la pandemia, restablecer la sostenibilidad fiscal y reducir la deuda pública.
El directorio ejecutivo «concluyó la sexta y última revisión» lo que «permite un desembolso inmediato» de alrededor 700 millones de dólares, que las autoridades prevén utilizar «para apoyo presupuestario», informa el FMI en un comunicado.
Ecuador completa así su primer programa con la institución financiera en más de dos décadas.
