La organización Greenpeace instaló una estatua del primer ministro británico, Boris Johnson, empapada en petróleo y bloqueó la calle de Downing Street, donde se encuentra su residencia, para protestar contra el apoyo del Gobierno al proyecto petrolífero de Cambo, en Escocia.
«Hemos instalado una estatua de Boris Johnson porque sabemos que a él le gusta ser conocido como un líder del medioambiente, y si sigue con la aprobación del campo petrolero Cambo será recordado como un fracaso climático» en su carrera política, dijo a EFE uno de los manifestantes, Philip Evans.
Los manifestantes llevaban chaquetas y pancartas con la frase «Stop Cambo», algunos de ellos se sentaron alrededor de barriles de petróleo en señal de protesta.
La policía metropolitana de Londres se presentó en el lugar para intentar desmontar con dificultad la estatua del primer ministro y los bidones de petróleo, ante lo que los manifestantes opusieron resistencia pasiva.
Greenpeace quiere conseguir con esta protesta que el Gobierno británico rectifique, deje de apoyar este tipo de proyectos, y que se produzca una aceleración en la transición al uso de energías renovables.
