El presidente de Rumanía, Klaus Iohannis firmó este viernes una ley que prohíbe a China y en particular a Huawei participar en el desarrollo de sus redes de telecomunicaciones 5G, alegando motivos de seguridad, de acuerdo con Reuters.
La actúal medida tiene origen en un memorando de entendimiento suscrito en 2019 por EE.UU. y Rumanía, en el cual los dos gobiernos manifestaron que «como parte de un enfoque de seguridad basado en el riesgo, es necesaria una evaluación cuidadosa y completa de los proveedores de 5G».
El Gobierno rumano acordó ya el pasado mes de abril prohibir la participación en esas redes de las empresas controladas por el país asiático, medida que el Parlamento rumano posteriormente refrendó.
Bucarest ha sido un aliado incondicional de Washington incluso desde antes de su adhesión a la Organización del Tratado del Atlántico Norte (OTAN).
