El Ministerio de Interior y Policía de la República Dominicana dijo que el país esta entre los países con los niveles más bajos de homicidios en América Latina y el Caribe tras la crisis generada por el COVID-19.
La institución hizo el señalamiento a través de un comunicado de prensa luego de que este diario,en su edición de ayer, publicara cifras que tienen como fuente su Centro de Análisis de Datos para la Seguridad Ciudadana, que revelan que la tasa de homicidios en el país paso de 9.2 por cada 100,000 habitantes en el 2020 a 11.1 en el 2021.
“A pesar de esta situación, la República Dominicana es el quinto país de la región con los niveles más bajos de homicidios, al lograr una tasa de 11.1 por cada 100 mil habitantes, lo cual la ubica en una posición muy por debajo del promedio regional de 20.4 homicidios por cada 100 mil habitantes”, dice el comunicado.
Señala que solo Chile con 3.6, Nicaragua con 5.7, Paraguay con 7.4 y Uruguay con 8.5, según sus datos oficiales, tienen tasas de homicidios por cada 100,000 habitantes más bajas que República Dominicana.
En ese sentido, destaca que para el 2021 Colombia reportó un aumento de su tasa de homicidios de 13 por ciento con respecto al 2020; Panamá un 11 por ciento; Guatemala un 11 por ciento y El Salvador ocho por ciento.
