Agentes federales de EE.UU. están investigando al ‘youtuber’ y exatleta olímpico estadounidense Trevor Jacob, al que acusan de estrellar su avioneta a propósito para conseguir más visitas en un video del incidente.
El pasado mes diciembre, Jacob subió a su canal de Youtube un video titulado ‘Estrellé mi avión’, en el que protagoniza un accidente aéreo en las montañas del Bosque Nacional Los Padres, en California. Pronto, sin embargo, muchos de sus seguidores lo acusaron de haberlo hecho a propósito para conseguir más visitas.
El exatleta, que ha venido haciendo videos para YouTube durante algún tiempo, adujo que estaba en ruta desde el aeropuerto de la ciudad de Lompoc, en Santa Bárbara, hacia Mammoth Lakes, cuando el motor del avión se detuvo repentinamente, lo que lo obligó a abandonarlo.
El video, de más de 10 minutos, va desde que la aeronave despega hasta el momento en que Jacob escapa, saltando con un paracaídas, y lanza el avión con la nariz hacia abajo, forzándolo a una trayectoria vertical hacia el desierto.
Con la ayuda de un palo para ‘selfies’ y cámaras instaladas en la aeronave, se ve a Jacob caer en picada por el aire, mientras la avioneta desciende cada vez más y finalmente se precipita hacia la ladera de una colina.
El video, que cuenta con más de un millón de vistas, ha provocado criticas de varios expertos de aviación. Trent Palmer, un piloto privado, observó que Jacob habría abierto la puerta del avión antes de que el motor fallara y que no parecía buscar un lugar seguro para aterrizar.
Por su parte, la Administración Federal de Aviación de EE.UU. (FAA, por sus siglas en inglés) abrió una investigación sobre el accidente, informó el portal de aviación AVweb.
Según Flying, si la FAA concluye que el accidente fue intencional, Jacob podría ser inculpado por operación descuidada e imprudente de la aeronave.
