La periodista mexicana María de Lourdes Maldonado López fue asesinada de un disparo en la cabeza este domingo en la ciudad de Tijuana, recogen medios locales.
Maldonado, quien se encontraba inscrita desde 2021 en el Mecanismo de Protección a Periodistas y Defensores de los Derechos Humanos del Gobierno de Baja California, fue acribillada afuera de su casa cuando se encontraba a bordo de su automóvil.
La reportera y conductora de programas de radio había ganado hace una semana un litigio laboral contra la empresa del exgobernador del estado de Baja California, Jaime Bonilla Valdez, por lo que la Junta de Conciliación y Arbitraje ordenó un embargo comercial para garantizar el pago del adeudo salarial y de prestaciones.
En marzo de 2019, Maldonado había asistido a una conferencia de prensa del presidente de México, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, para denunciar que su vida se encontraba en peligro.
«Vengo aquí para pedirle apoyo, ayuda y justicia laboral, porque hasta temo por mi vida, porque se trata de un pleito que tengo seis años con él [Bonilla Valdez]», manifestó entonces la comunicadora.
Este es el segundo asesinato de un periodista en Tijuana en apenas una semana, luego del homicidio del fotoperiodista Margarito Martínez Esquivel el pasado 17 de enero. Días antes, el 10 de enero, fue asesinado el comunicador José Luis Gamboa Arenas en el estado de Veracruz.
México es «uno de los países más peligrosos y mortíferos del mundo para los medios», según ha denunciado la organización Reporteros Sin Fronteras, que en 2021 documentó siete homicidios de periodistas en la nación latinoamericana.
