El médico jefe del hospital Batra, Shiv Charan Lal Gupta, informó que la vacunación contra el coronavirus con el inmunizante ruso Sputnik V comenzó en la capital india, Nueva Delhi.
«Los indios leen los periódicos, ven la televisión, todos saben la efectividad de cada vacuna y entienden que la eficacia de Sputnik V es de más del 90%, eso es una efectividad muy alta», dijo el médico.
La India tiene aprobadas tres vacunas para el uso de emergencia: la rusa Sputnik V, la inglesa AstraZeneca y la autóctona Covaxin.
Gupta puntualizó que la mitad de las personas reciben la vacuna rusa gratis mediante el programa estatal, y la otra mitad, pagando 1.145 rupias (15,4 dólares).
«Para ser vacunado hay que registrarse en un portal especial. Ahora estamos usando la vacuna hecha en Rusia pero esperamos que en julio la Sputnik V empiece a ser desarrollada en la India», afirmó.
Según el Ministerio de Sanidad indio, desde que comenzó la pandemia en marzo del 2020 en la India se infectaron más de 30,3 millones de personas, de ellas 29,4 millones se recuperaron, 398.000 murieron y 537.000 están en tratamiento.
