Un día como hoy, 23 de agosto de 1973, se produjo el intento de asalto a una sucursal del Kreditbanken en Estocolmo, Suecia. El asaltante, al verse rodeado por la policía, tomó cuatro rehenes y, para liberarlas, pidió dinero, un vehículo, un amigo que estaba preso, etc. En principio, las rehenes, en complicidad involuntaria, terminaron protegiendo a los secuestradores, pero fueron vencidos al sexto día.
Al final, una de las rehenes confesó que se sentía segura con los secuestradores. Dicho testimonio fue bautizado como “Síndrome de Estocolmo” por el psiquiatra Nils Bejerot.
