Se están llevando a cabo negociaciones para descargar los 1,1 millones de barriles de petróleo crudo estimados que permanecen a bordo del FSO Safer, que se ha estado deteriorando por mes desde que fue abandonado en 2017. El buque contiene cuatro veces la cantidad de petróleo liberado por el Exxon Valdez en el Golfo de Alaska en 1989, y un derrame se considera cada vez más probable.
