Al menos 50 migrantes murieron asfixiados en el interior de un tráiler en la ciudad de San Antonio, estado de Texas (EE.UU.), ubicada cerca de la frontera sur, confirmó este martes el presidente de México, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
«Hasta ahora son 50 los fallecidos: 22 de México, siete de Guatemala, dos de Honduras y 19 todavía sin información sobre su nacionalidad», dijo el mandatario en su conferencia matutina.
El presidente mexicano, que calificó lo sucedido de «tremenda desgracia», también expresó sus condolencias a los familiares de la víctimas e informó que personal del Consulado de México en Texas se encuentra ya en la zona para apoyar la investigación y a los familiares de las víctimas.
El hallazgo de los cadáveres se produjo el lunes. De acuerdo a fuentes policiales, otras 16 personas fueron encontradas con vida, entre ellas cuatro niños, y trasladadas a hospitales de la zona. Todas ellas sufrieron los efectos de las altas temperaturas, que ese día se acercaron a los 37 grados centígrados en San Antonio, sumado a que dentro del camión no había agua ni aire acondicionado.
