Portar el virus de inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) dejó de ser impedimento para ingresar a las Fuerzas Armadas de Uruguay, así lo informó hoy el ministro de Defensa uruguayo, Javier García.
El anuncio se hizo en el marco del Día Mundial de la Lucha contra el Sida, que se celebra este miércoles.
«Es una decisión que está basada en criterios científicos y técnicos», dijo el ministro.
En ese sentido, detalló que el año pasado se formó una comisión en el Ministerio de Defensa Nacional «para analizar diferentes reglamentos de aptitud física para las distintas fuerzas» y se solicitaron dos informes, uno al servicio de infectología del Hospital Central de las Fuerzas Armadas y otro del director de la Cátedra de Enfermedades Infecciosas de la Universidad de la República, Julio Medina.
García precisó que enviaron un proyecto de decreto con la decisión al presidente Luis Lacalle Pou para su aprobación final.
