El presidente de Ucrania llamó a Israel a asumir una postura más fuerte contra Rusia, comparando la invasión rusa de su país con las atrocidades cometidas por la Alemania nazi durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
En un discurso emitido vía Zoom ante el Knéset (parlamento israelí), Volodymyr Zelenskyy acusó al presidente ruso Vladimir Putin de tratar de perpetrar una “Solución Final” contra Ucrania.
Ese es el mismo término que usaban los nazis para referirse al genocidio de unos 6 millones de judíos durante el Holocausto.
Zelenskyy recordó el reciente bombardeo ruso contra Babi Ya, el lugar en Ucrania donde más de 30.000 judíos fueron masacrados por los nazis durante dos días en 1941. El lugar es ahora el principal monumento al Holocausto ucraniano.
“Ustedes bien saben lo que significa este lugar, ustedes saben dónde están enterradas las víctimas del Holocausto”, expresó Zelenskyy.
El primer ministro israelí Naftali Bennett ha surgido como mediador entre Rusia y Ucrania, en parte porque Israel tiene buenas relaciones con ambos países.
Zelenskyy, quien es judío, imploró a Israel a seguir el ejemplo de otros países imponiéndole sanciones a Rusia y dándole armas a los ucranianos que resisten.
