Una secuencia de al menos 20 sismos se han registrado la madrugada de este viernes en una localidad occidente de El Salvador, sin reporte de víctimas ni daños materiales, informó el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN).
La fuente gubernamental señaló que los temblores son producto de una actividad sísmica localizada a unos 8 kilómetros al noreste de la ciudad de Ahuachapán, en el occidental departamento de Ahuachapán.
Indicó que los sismos han sido registrados entre las 02.36 hora local (08.36 GMT) y las 04.30 hora local (10.30 GMT) de hoy y apuntó que del total de temblores 5 han sido reportados como sentidos por la población.
Las magnitudes de los sismos sentidos, amplió el MARN, oscilan entre 2.4 y 4.4 y el sismo de mayor magnitud ocurrió a las 02.41 hora local (08.41 GMT) de este viernes.
Dicho temblor tuvo una magnitud de 4.4, una profundidad de 6.0 kilómetros e intensidad 5 en la ciudad de Ahuachapán, de acuerdo con los datos de la entidad gubernamental que no reporta daños materiales ni víctimas.
El MARN explicó que “por las características de las señales registradas, el origen de esta actividad sísmica es atribuido a la activación de fallas geológicas en la zona”.
