El ministro de Salud de Venezuela, Carlos Alvarado, en el foro político de Alto Nivel del Consejo Económico y Social de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), reiteró el llamado del Gobierno venezolano a declarar las vacunas contra el COVID-19 como un bien público global.
Alvarado también ratificó la solicitud del Gobierno del levantamiento de las sanciones impuestas por Estados Unidos, las cuales dijo dificultan el acceso a los recursos del Estado para hacer frente a la pandemia.
Además de la pandemia también el ministro se refirió a las sanciones que Estados Unidos ha impuesto en ese pais, dijo: «Venezuela enfrenta hoy dos pandemias: la del COVID-19 y la generada por las criminales medidas coercitivas unilaterales impuestas por el Gobierno estadounidense, nos referimos a las mal llamadas sanciones que en los actuales tiempos de pandemia deben ser completa e inmediatamente levantadas (…) Por las dificultades que impone para el acceso a nuestros recursos bloqueados en la banca internacional y la adquisición de insumos y vacunas para atender la pandemia».
Alvarado manifestó que a pesar del «panorama complejo», el Gobierno implementó un plan nacional de prevención y atención contra el COVID-19 dirigido a todos los sectores sociales, con atención especial a los más vulnerables y priorizados, incluyendo medidas masivas de mitigación y control, atención hospitalaria y vacunación progresiva de manera gratuita.
Para ello, el funcionario dijo que su país cuenta «con apoyo invaluable de países como Cuba, China Rusia, e Irán», así como con la cooperación de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), el Sistema de Naciones Unidas y algunas organizaciones internacionales como la Cruz Roja.
El Gobierno venezolano ha denunciado en reiteradas ocasiones que el bloqueo económico le ha privado del 99% de sus ingresos en divisas.
Además, ha asegurado que más de 7.000 millones de dólares están «secuestrados» y bloqueados en sistemas financieros internacionales.
