La Policía Metropolitana de Londres (Met, Scotland Yard) informó este miércoles de que investigará a la fundación del príncipe Carlos, heredero de la corona británica, por supuestamente aceptar donaciones a cambio de favorecer la concesión de títulos y honores.
En un comunicado, las fuerzas del orden indicaron que han decidido abrir una investigación después de que los medios divulgasen el año pasado que uno de los más estrechos colaboradores de Carlos, Michael Fawcett, renunció a la dirección de la fundación del heredero tras mediar para que un millonario saudí recibiese una de las más altas distinciones del Reino Unido.
Clarence House, residencia del heredero, señaló hoy que el príncipe no tiene conocimiento de que se hicieran tales ofertas de dispensar honores o favorecer la concesión de la nacionalidad británica a cambio de donaciones.
«La Policía Metropolitana ha puesto en marcha una investigación sobre las denuncias de delito en virtud de la Ley de Honores (que previene abusos de este tipo) de 1925», reza el comunicado.
«La decisión se tomó tras analizar una carta en septiembre de 2021, relacionada con una información en los medios en la que se afirmaba que se hicieron ofertas de ayuda para conceder honores o ciudadanía para un nacional saudí», subraya Scotland Yard.
A raíz de este análisis la Fundación del Príncipe facilitó una serie de documentos relevantes, según la Policía.
«Estos documentos han sido revisados junto con información ya existente. El análisis determinó que se abrirá una pesquisa. No se han realizado detenciones ni interrogatorios», puntualizó.
