El secretario del Departamento de Salud de Puerto Rico, Carlos Mellado López, anunció este miércoles que se ha confirmado el primer caso de viruela del mono en la isla caribeña.
«Es momento de que todos estemos alerta sobre los síntomas clínicos y los criterios epidemiológicos de este virus para que podamos prevenir contagios y detener cualquier cadena de transmisión», declaró Mellado López, quien aseguró que cuentan «con un sistema de vigilancia robusto y preparado para atender esta situación». No obstante, instó a que aquellas «personas que presenten los síntomas asociados consulten a su proveedor de servicios de salud de inmediato».
Según medios locales, la persona infectada con la enfermedad viral permanece en aislamiento en su hogar. Asimismo, reportaron que se encuentra en condiciones estables y bajo atención médica.
