El recién nombrado primer Ministro de Haití, Claude Joseph, emitió un comunicado en el que confirma que el presidente de Haití, Jovenel Moises, fue asesinado esta madrugada por un comando armado que penetró a su residencia en medio de un intenso tiroteo.
Los primeros informes de seguridad indican que en el comando que atacó a Moïses había mercenarios suramericanos.
En la acción fue herida de gravedad su esposa Martine Moise, cuyo estado de salud aún era confuso.
Claude Joseph, confirma que a eso de las 1:00 de la madrugada Moises fue mortalmente herido.

Moises, de 53 años, ganó las elecciones presidenciales de su país en primera vuelta el 27 de noviembre de 2016 y asumió el 7 de brebrero de 2017, proceso que apenas contó con la participación del 21 por ciento de los electores.
Desde el año pasado enfrentaba protestas violentas promovida por grupos opositores, quienes exigían su salida del poder alegando que su periodo concluía el 7 de febrero pasado en el entendido de que el misimo se contabilizaba desde el 7 de febrero del 2016 pese a que él tomó posición en 2017.
Otra de las situaciones que enfrentaba Moises fue el auge de grupos criminales que han tomado el control de gran cantidad del territorio haitiano y que desafiaban la autoridad gubernamental.
