La Comisión Europea ha lanzado este martes la segunda convocatoria para apoyar a mujeres que estén al frente de startups tecnológicas, en el marco de la iniciativa para promover el rol de la mujer en la ciencia e innovación.
Las 130 ganadoras se beneficiarán de ayudas de 75.000 euros y de los servicios de aceleración de negocios enmarcados en el plan de Ecosistemas de Innovación Europeos dentro de Horizon, el programa científico a nivel de la UE.
«Hemos recibido una respuesta muy positiva a este primer programa piloto, con casi 400 solicitudes de toda la UE y los países asociados. Estoy orgullosa de que ahora estemos apoyando a 50 empresas ambiciosas dirigidas por mujeres de 16 países», ha señalado la comisaria de Innovación y Cultura, Mariya Gabriel.
En este sentido, la comisaria búlgara considera esta iniciativa un «gran paso en la dirección correcta» para cerrar la «profunda brecha de género en tecnología» y promover el talento y potencial de las mujeres.
La iniciativa busca impulsar el liderazgo femenino ya que, según datos de la Comisión Europea, las mujeres están infrarrepresentadas en el campo de la ciencia y tecnología, con solo un 10 por ciento de las patentes y menos de un 15 por ciento de las startups.
Esto genera un «círculo vicioso», según Bruselas, que ha constatado que solo el 5 por ciento del capital de riesgo se dedica a equipos que incluyen mujeres y solo un 2 por ciento a proyectos íntegramente femeninos. Además la tendencia se aceleró durante la pandemia cuando la inversión en equipos de mujeres se redujo un 31 por ciento en comparación con 2019, mientras que la financiación para equipos exclusivamente masculinos se redujo un 16 por ciento durante el mismo período.
