El Centro Nacional de Huracanes de EE.UU. (NHC), informó que el huracán Ida ha azotado la costa norte del golfo de México cerca de Port Fourchon, en el estado estadounidense de Luisiana.
Según se precisa, el ciclón «extremadamente peligroso» genera vientos máximos sostenidos de 240 kilómetros por hora y se mueve al noroeste a una velocidad de 20 kilómetros por hora.
Señales del huracán inminente ya han llegado a Nueva Orleans. En el aeropuerto Lakefront se han observado durante la última hora vientos sostenidos de 69 km/h, con ráfagas de hasta 107 km/h
El investigador de huracanes de la Universidad de Miami, Brian McNoldy, aseguró que Ida será más fuerte que Katrina, y por un margen bastante grande. «Y lo peor de la tormenta pasará por Nueva Orleans y Baton Rouge, que estuvo en el lado más débil del Katrina», afirmó McNoldy.
