El secretario general de la OTAN, Jens Stoltenberg, reiteró este miércoles que la alianza no enviará tropas a Ucrania, al comentar en una conferencia de prensa la propuesta de Polonia de enviar fuerzas de mantenimiento de paz.
«La OTAN no es parte del conflicto, pero brinda apoyo a Ucrania.Debemos entender que es importante apoyar a Ucrania, pero también es importante evitar una guerra entre la Federación de Rusia y la OTAN. Por lo tanto, dijimos claramente que no enviaríamos tropas a Ucrania», declaró.
Asimismo, el funcionario anticipó que los líderes de la organización acordarán en una cumbre el próximo jueves reforzar sus fuerzas en el flanco este de la alianza, con el despliegue de cuatro nuevos grupos de combate en Bulgaria, Hungría, Rumania, Eslovaquia.
«Espero que los líderes acepten fortalecer la posición de la OTAN en todos los dominios, con aumentos importantes en la parte oriental de la alianza en tierra, aire y mar», agregó.
Por otra parte, Stoltenberg aseveró que el conflicto en Ucrania ha demostrado que la Alianza Atlántica debe restablecer su postura de disuasión y defensa a largo plazo.
