Bruselas quiere que los agrícultores europeos produzcan más alimentos para compensar el impacto de la guerra en Ucrania. Así lo han explicado en una propuesta presentada este miércoles. La Comisión Europea insiste que el suministro de alimentos en la Unión no está amenazado pero que se necesitan respuestas a corto y medio plazo para evitar la escasez.
Por ello se busca ampliar las tierras de producción. «Abrimos la posibilidad de utilizar la tierra agrícola que fue excluida de la producción debido a la obligación de ecologización que tenemos en la Política Agrícola Común. Se trata de 4 millones de hectáreas, en areas de interés ecológico y que se tienen que dejar en barbecho. Estas tierras se podrán utilizar para la producción agrícola, para la producción de alimentos y piensos», ha explicado el comisario europeo de Agricultura, Janusz Wojciechowski.
La Comisión también propone una dotación de 500 millones de euros para ayudar a los agricultores. También apuesta por entregar anticipos a los pagos directos y ofrecer más flexibilidad en las importaciones de productos destinados a la alimentación animal.
Pero la Unión Europea también quiere ayudar a Ucrania y acusa a Rusia de querer provocar una hambruna. «Me gustaría señalar que Rusia parece estar atacando y destruyendo deliberadamente las reservas y los depósitos de alimentos de Ucrania», ha apuntado el vicepresidente de la Comisión Europea, Valdis Dombrovskis.
La institución también propone un programa de ayuda de emergencia de 330 millones de euros para los ucranianos con el fin de garantizar su acceso a bienes y servicios básicos.
