La gobernadora de Nueva York, Kathy Hochul, ha solicitado a la Casa Blanca que se declare el noroeste del estado como zona catastrófica luego del paso de la tormenta invernal Ellion, que ha provocado alrededor de 30 muertos.
En una reunión celebrada en la ciudad de Buffalo, la más castigada por la nieve y las bajas temperaturas, Hochul resaltó lo importante de esta medida para hacer frente a los costes y gastos ocasionados por la tormenta, que en todo el país dejó medio centenar de víctimas mortales.
En su intervención, la gobernadora dijo que, aunque la situación es mejor, todavía se espera que caigan entre 15 y 30 centímetros de nieve en el sur del condado de Erie, cuya capital es la ciudad de Buffalo.
“La situación no es mala como en el último par de días, pero sigue siendo una situación peligrosa para estar fuera. Quédense en casa hasta mañana”, indicó Hochul, que calificó la tormenta como “única en una generación”.
