La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) convocó para este viernes la 14ª reunión del Comité de Emergencia por la pandemia de COVID-19, donde, tal y como anunció el martes el director general de la Organización, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, debatirán si la situación actual del COVID-19 “sigue constituyendo una emergencia de salud pública”.
Por tanto, tras la reunión, convocada en virtud del Reglamento Sanitario Internacional (RSI 2005), el Comité de Emergencia informará al Director General de la OMS sobre si la pandemia de COVID-19 todavía constituye una Emergencia de Salud Pública de Preocupación Internacional (ESPI).
El Comité de Emergencia también emitirá recomendaciones temporales a la OMS y sus Estados miembros. Asimismo, tras finalizar la reunión se compartirá con los medios de comunicación un comunicado.
El Comité de Emergencia del RSI para el COVID-19 celebró su primera reunión los días 22 y 23 de enero de 2020. El 30 de enero de 2020, luego de su segunda reunión, el Comité informó al Director General que el brote de COVID-19 constituía una emergencia de salud pública de alcance internacional.
