El movimiento talibán (bajo sanciones de la ONU como terrorista) designó para el cargo de embajador interino de la misión afgana ante la ONU a Naseer Ahmad Faiq, comunicó la misión.
«La misión permanente de la República Islámica de Afganistán ante la ONU quisiera informar que Naseer Ahmad Faiq, ministro consejero, asumió el liderazgo de la misión como embajador interino», dice el mensaje del organismo en Twitter.
Se destaca que la misión afgana «continuará desarrollando cooperación estrecha con las autoridades de la ONU y los Estados miembros para abordar la situación humanitaria grave en Afganistán».
Anteriormente, el Gobierno de los talibanes informó a la ONU que el ex embajador afgano anterior ante la ONU, Ghulam Isaczai, ya no representa al Gobierno de Afganistán.
Ghulam Isaczai fue nombrado representante permanente de Afganistán ante la ONU por el ex mandatario afgano Ashraf Ghani.
Afganistán se sumergió en el caos tras la caída del presidente Ashraf Ghani el pasado 15 de agosto.
El movimiento talibán tomó el poder poniendo fin a dos décadas de conflicto armado con el Gobierno que era apoyado por Estados Unidos y otros países de la Organización del Tratado del Atlántico Norte.
