República Dominicana. – El Ministerio de Salud Pública anunció que a partir de la próxima semana llegan al país 85 mil dosis de vacuna contra el cólera, las cuales serán aplicadas a las poblaciones más vulnerables, como las comunidades que están a orillas del río Isabela y otras.
El viceministro de Salud Colectiva, doctor Eladio Pérez, indicó que las vacunas fueron adquiridas a través del fondo rotatorio de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) y que desde que lleguen, comenzarán a ser aplicadas.
Señaló que para obtener las vacunas fue en base a negociación con un organismo especial de la OPS, porque al República Dominicana tener pocos casos, no calificaba para las emergencias para recibir vacunas, pero se tomó en cuenta la cercanía y el trasiego con Haití donde hay un mayor brote de la enfermedad.
