Los Centros para el Control y Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) comunicaron que un brote de listeriosis vinculado a una marca de helados ha dejado un fallecido y 22 hospitalizados en Sarasota (Florida, EE.UU.).
Los CDC indican que el brote está relacionado con los helados de la marca Big Olaf Creamery, que solo se venden en Florida, por lo que instan a la gente que los haya comprado a que se deshaga de ellos y limpie los recipientes, utensilios y áreas que hayan podido estar en contacto con esos productos.
Asimismo, pide a las empresas que no sirvan ni vendan ningún producto de esa marca, detallando que la compañía responsable ya se está poniendo en contacto con las tiendas minoristas para recomendar que retiren sus helados de las estanterías hasta nuevo aviso.
Si bien la mayoría de casos se han detectado en Florida, también se han registrado infectados en otros nueve estados: Minesota, Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Nueva York, Pensilvania, Massachusetts, Nueva Jersey y Georgia.
Por otro lado, la agencia de salud pública estadounidense explica que las personas más vulnerables a esta afección son las mujeres embarazadas y sus recién nacidos, los adultos mayores de 65 años y las personas con sistemas inmunitarios debilitados.
