Se decidió por mayoría de votos reducir las penas por violación sexual por parte de la pareja, los legisladores acordaron que el violador solo cumpla de 6 meses a un año de prisión.
Así lo explicó el senador Antonio Taveras, miembro de la comisión bicameral, quien mostró su desacuerdo con esta medida y otras modificaciones hechas al Código Penal durante un retiro que tuvieron los congresistas en un hotel de La Romana.

El senador representante de Santo Domingo expresó que el nuevo Código Penal “aún tiene debilidades” en temas que involucran a las mujeres, por lo que consideró que la pieza “sigue desprotegiendo y maltratando” a algunos segmentos sociales.
